What is the Canadian Acoustical Association?
The CAA is the professional, interdisciplinary organization that :

- promotes the growth and practical application of knowledge in acoustics

- is an umbrella organization through which general issues in education, employment and research can be addressed at a national and multidisciplinary level
The CAA is a member society of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) and the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA), and is an affiliate society of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV).

What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:
• Identify emerging opportunities to improve the sustainability of the provincial transportation system

• Develop, recommend and implement transportation related environmental policies
• Review, prepare and present policy and technical reports to address strategic transportation issues associated with a focus on noise, air quality and climate change

• Provide advice and establish partnerships with stakeholders to work on transportation-related environmental policy initiatives

How do I qualify?Technical Knowledge and Expertise
• you have knowledge of environmental management theories, practices, and land-use planning policy to provide advice on matters with specific focus on transportation related air quality, climate change and noise assessment and mitigation.
• you have knowledge of environmental theories and practices related to noise, climate change and air quality to identify emerging issues and provide advice related to transportation.
• you have knowledge noise assessment methodology and noise control measures along linear facilities..
• you have knowledge of transportation design processes, construction, maintenance and operations practices to lead and coordinate environmental studies and projects
• you have project management knowledge and skills to lead concurrent project, studies and project teams
• you have knowledge of environmental assessment and protection legislation to identify issues with a specific focus on air quality, climate change and noise mitigation

Position
Acoustical Consultant position now open at BKL Consultants Ltd. (www.bkl.ca).
Context
Due to our continuing success, we are looking to add a new member to our innovative and close-knit acoustics team.
BKL is involved in a large and diverse range of projects including both architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration assessment. We consult to commercial, institutional, health, education, industry, entertainment, arts, transportation, residential, and a variety of other market sectors. Our architectural related work includes room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical (HVAC) noise control, mechanical and electrical equipment vibration isolation, and outdoor noise propagation. Project delivery methods include traditional delivery (architects, clients), design build, and public private partnership (P3). Our environmental noise and vibration work typically involves baseline monitoring, prediction and assessment, preparation of impact statements, and participation in public meetings and hearings for major transportation and industrial projects.
Responsibilities
Your contribution to projects will span the entire duration of the process including preparation of proposals and fee estimates, conducting measurements, analyzing data, acoustical modelling and preparing reports. You will be expected to manage all aspects of your projects, working independently with minimal supervision, but with access to the support and resources you need. You will work collaboratively with other consultants to meet project milestones, managing the contributions of junior and intermediate consultants. In this role, the majority of your time will be chargeable to project work but a proven ability to manage existing and develop new client relationships will also be important. This is your opportunity to positively impact current and future clients and the projects they bring to BKL.
Requirements
Candidates must have excellent analytical skills, a solid understanding of acoustics and very good spoken and written English. Knowledge of current MS Office Suite, drafting and acoustics software applications is expected plus an ability and willingness to learn new tools. Experience with test equipment and methodology for sound and vibration measurements is mandatory. Candidates should be able to establish strong QA/QC procedures and feel comfortable presenting technical reports to clients.
Candidates should have university level education, preferably in the field of engineering with professional registration. A minimum of 4 to 6 years consulting experience in the field of acoustics is required.

Compensation
An annual salary commensurate with experience will be offered with authorized overtime paid at time-and-a-half. Benefits include a generous vacation allowance plus 12 holidays, full cost of health and long-term disability insurance, professional association dues and various other subsidies.
